Utah Water Heater Replacement or Repair? (How NOT to blowup your house)

Utah water heater repair or replacement probably doesn’t rank number on your list of things to do (or things you want to do). Unfortunately, there will come a time where your water heater will fail, and will require maintenance, or outright replacement. Fortunately, we at Pacific North Utah’s Home Plumbers can help! Call us today at 801-319-1876, or email us here, we can help you determine if your water heater needs maintenance or if its time to replace the entire unit. Our plumbers are fast, dependable, and highly trained and certified; they can get in and get the job done with no hassle.

The first thing to consider when deciding what to do about your Utah water heater is to consider its age. We recommend maintaining your water heater at minimum on an annual basis; if your Utah water heater hasn’t been looked at by a professional plumber in over a year, call us today and we’ll come make sure its working correctly (you don’t want to end up with a water heater rocket, like the guys over at myth busters). If your water heater is 6 years or older, it might be time for a replacement. You may notice it taking a longer time to heat the water, or that hot water takes longer and longer to reach your faucets and fixtures. We can help with that.
Here are a few tips that you can check yourself to see if your Utah water heater is in need of maintenance or replacement:
  • Check the area around the water heater: if there is water present, its definitely time to have a professional come take a look.
  • Look for rust: if you find a good deal of rust forming on your Utah water heater, its time to replace it.
  • Check the T&P valve: this little valve, located on the top or top side of the tank, allows steam to escape from your Utah water heater, preventing the thing from becoming a propellant for a small rocket booster. Haven’t heard of that before? Check out this video (or visit our water heater page) to learn more; not only is it possible, but there are several documented cases of poorly maintained water heaters exploding through the roof!
