Drains & Clearing
Drain and Sewer Repair

utah residential plumbingWe fix clogged drains and sewer lines of all types. Our knowledgeable Utah Plumbing Specialists can help with drains clogged from:

  • Grease
  • Hair
  • Dip in underground line
  • Tree Roots
What is a Drain?

Drains are what they do: they exist to allow for water to drain from one area to another. When they are working properly, they provide a connection from a place like your sink to the pipes beneath the sink, which then leads out of your house. Drains are important aspects of your plumbing system in your home. There are several different types of drains, and places where these drains exist. You can find drains in your:

  • Kitchen Sink, Laundry Room, Showers and Tubs, and Bathroom Sinks
  • In the garage and basement (clean out drains)
  • Toilets
  • By your water heater (area drains) and on the roof (roof drains)
What Can Go Wrong?

Drains are extremely forgettable aspects of your home; that is, until they stop working. Then you REALLY notice them, especially as the stuff they are supposed to be draining into your pipes and into the sewer is backing up and draining onto your floor.

Drains can get clogged for a number of different reasons. Everyone has at some time or another clogged their toilet, and used a plunger to clear out the stoppage. But sometimes, the clogs can come from build up of residue over time, especially here in Utah with our extremely hard water that deposits a high concentration of minerals (see our Water Softeners tab for more info).

You may be tempted to use a store bought drain cleaner to try and remove a particularly stubborn clog. DON’T DO IT! These contain harmful chemicals that apart from releasing toxic elements into your home will eat through and erode the pipes, which will eventually lead you to having to replace all the pipes in your home. That means tearing through walls, ripping up floors…not a fun proposition. But we can help!

Pacific North Utah’s Home Plumbers can easily fix any drain clog or drain repair problem. We are your go to Utah plumber, and we service all of Utah County, including Alpine, American Fork, Lehi, Orem, Provo, Cedar Hills, Highland, Lindon, Pleasant Grove, and even Spanish Fork and Payson. Fixtures
Fixture Repair and Replacement

Utah Plumbing FixturesWe fix, repair, and replace fixtures of all types with the most common problems our knowledgeable specialists frequently help with are:

  • Leaking water
  • Slow running/no water
  • Worn cartridges and gaskets
WHAT IS A FIXTURE?

The term fixture typically refers to the “working end” of your plumbing system in the house. Examples of fixtures include kitchen sink faucets, bathroom faucets, shower heads, etc. They can come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, and finishes, from classic faucets with brushed nickel finish and traditional turning knobs to more modern looking chrome finished faucets that feature touch technology.

WHAT CAN GO WRONG?

A number of problems can arise with your homes fixtures, especially here in Utah with our extremely hard water (see our Water Softener Tab for more info on hard water). Apart from just normal wear and tear that can necessitate a replacement or upgrade, the following signs can be an indication that it is time for a new fixture:

  • Slow running/no water: You may have very little or even no water flow that results from a buildup of mineral deposits within the internal workings of the faucet.
  • Worn Cartages and Gaskets: Sometimes double or single handled faucets may start to wear, resulting in the inability to turn the water on, or even worse, OFF, completely.
  • Leaking Water: If water is coming out of places it shouldn’t, it’s usually a good idea to simply upgrade and replace the fixture, as trying to fix it can sometimes cost more than upgrading to a new one.

  • Water heater anode
What is included in the inspection?

At Pacific North Utah’s Home Plumbers, we believe in fixing problems before they become a catastrophe. The last thing you need is to be calling a plumber to fix your water heater because you have no hot water…better to find out that its about to fail and have it replaced right now. We offer a 100 point entire home plumbing inspection, where we go through each and every aspect of your home’s plumbing system to determine if something needs fixing. We look at everything from the flapper and flush valve in your toilet to the anode in the belly of your water heater, and rate it based on visual and touch tests.

Why Do I Need It?

While there are things about your plumbing system in your home that can be easily identified as problems, such as a leaky faucet or a rusty water heater, some things take a trained eye and an experienced hand to detect. In addition, there are aspects of your home plumbing systems that you would probably prefer not to have to come into contact with, such as the drain clean outs. Having a professional plumbing inspector come to your home and go through your entire plumbing system to make sure it is up to code is like having a complete tune up done on your car…except we don’t charge you anything for it.

Pacific North Utah’s Home Plumbers are eager to schedule a time to walk through your home and make sure nothing is amiss with your plumbing fixtures and appliances. And if there are problems, we will make our best recommendations based on your budget and needs. Home Remodels
What is a Bathroom Remodel?

Utah Bathroom RemodelingThe bathroom in your home should be a place that can both act as a stimulus to jump start your day, as well as a place of meditation and relaxation as that day comes to a close. Modern day bathrooms have the potential to accomplish these purposes beautifully; unfortunately, most bathrooms are lacking in many areas and are all too often relegated to “just another room in the house”.

Why Remodel?

Apart from being an easy way to increase the value of your home, a remodel can completely change your entire daily routine. Perhaps you are tired of playing the game where you try and find the ideal temperature with an out-dated shower handle: let us instal a digital control that can remember profiles and bring your water temperature exactly where you want it to be, to the degree. Or maybe you want an additional shower head, or body sprayers? Is the linoleum flooring starting to show wear? Let us replace it with beautiful tile.

  • You aren’t getting anymore hot water

  • Your water heater makes strange noises, like crunching or slapping sounds
TANKLESS WATER HEATERS

Tankless Water Heaters represent the cutting edge in water heating technology for your home. They are far smaller than a typical tanked water heater as they do not need to store water to heat them: they heat the water as it runs through them instantaneously, allowing for endless hot water supply for your home.

In addition to never running out of hot water (especially welcome news for those of you that enjoy long showers) they are energy efficient and green, passing on savings to you as the homeowner both in incentives and annual energy cost.

CAN I INSTALL ONE MYSELF?

While you can certainly attempt to install a tankless water heater on your own, we recommend letting a professional not only advise you on make and model so as to get the best unit for your specific home, but their installation can be tricky; they will need special ventilation and electrical connections, and connecting the water lines can be a headache if you don’t know what you are doing. Let the professionals at Pacific North Utah’s Home Plumbers come help you out!

Water Softeners & Purifiers
Water Softener Installation

We install water softeners!
Utah Plumbing Water SoftnerWhat you can expect without a water heater:

  • You will use approx. 75% MORE soap on average
  • Hard water and soap mixed together create soap scum, leaving that ring of nasty looking residue around the bathtub, and in the sinks. The hard water also leaves a ring in the toilet.
  • Many cases of Eczema (flaky, dry skin condition) can be directly linked to having extremely hard water
What is Hard Water?

Utah Water Softner InstallationHard water is any water that has enough dissolved hardness minerals in it to be measured above 1 GPG (grains per gallon). The Water Quality Research Council established a water hardness scale, ranking from 1 – 10.5 grains hard, with 1 being not very hard, and 10.5 being very hard.

In Utah, without softening the water, it is nearly impossible to find water that isn’t BELOW 14 GRAINS HARD. That means that for most of us in Utah, we have what is considered extremely hard water.

So What?

This is hard enough to leave a nasty amount of residue, also known as scale. It’s this crusty buildup that will clog pipes, stain fixtures, even change the color of your teeth! It will also leave a film on your skin when you shower, like a perma-soap scum. If you have untreated hard water, you can count on the following frustrating side effects:

Basically anything you would use water for will be negatively affected by the extreme hard water we have here in Utah.

What is a Water Heater?

Utah Water Heater ReplacementWater Heaters are (typically) the massive cylindrical towers looming in the dark corners of your utility closet or garage. Like many plumbing elements, a water heater does what its name implies; it heats up the potable water for your home. There are two types of water heaters, tanked and tankless. This page will focus on tanked water heaters, but if you’d like to learn more about the energy efficient, endless hot water supplying tankless water heaters click on the Tankless Tab on this page.

Tanked water heaters consist of the main tank that stores the water to be heated, a burner connected to a control valve that is fed by natural gas to heat the water, a drain valve, a flue for exhaust, and a cold water supply tube and a hot water line coming out of the heater.

What Can Go Wrong?

Tanked Water Heaters are one of the most important appliances in the house, providing hot water for baths and showers, laundry, cooking and dishwashing…the list goes on. As such, when it stops working, you definitely will know about it, and as they usually run off of natural gas, they aren’t the kind of appliance you want to be trying to DIY unless you know what you are doing.
